Another day of feeling surprisingly tired, it has made me wonder whether it is due to the growing darkness? Either that or moving house is exhausting?
Over a number of years, I have always noticed my mood and energy drops in the winter, so last year I bought a SAD Lamp, to see if that helped. I remember that I used it lots at the start of winter, when the days were getting darker and it worked wonders! I found myself staying up really late with lots of energy, but then didn’t needed it for the rest of the winter.
Saying that in December 2019, I performed at 24 Christmas / Birthday parties, so didn’t really have any time to not have any energy. Then January to March was also quite busy with work.
But I wonder whether the transition between lots of daylight to a lot less when we head towards the darker nights, is what my body finds harder, especially as this is the same for this year? So as a start to write this blog, I have dug out my SAD lamp and now have it on.
However, I have also just done an internet search on the stress of moving home. The article states that moving house is more stressful than getting divorced. Why is moving home so stressful?
“Moving is a process full of mixed emotions. On the one hand, it’s the start of an exciting new adventure; it’s the first step towards a new location with the opportunity to explore and meet new people. On the other hand, moving comes with a lot of change. Moving stress is a natural result of all these emotions colliding.”.

The article goes onto say the key reasons one gets stressed with moving home is:
-
-
- Change – lots of change.
- Money – moving home costs money.
- Time – takes up lots of time.
-
All of which I can relate to !
It goes on to describe ways to manage the stress of moving
-
-
- Adopt the Right Attitude – focus on the positives and remember the moving process is only temporary.
I need to remember this! - Do your Research – moving is leaping into the unknown, so research helps.
I need to do more of this and speak to my boat neighbours. - Make a checklist.
I’m not a big fan of lists, but I have numerous checklists at the moment and they are helping. - Declutter – Long before the move begins.
I decided to move on an impulse. I have no choice but to declutter!!! - Start Early.
Another one I can’t do much about. But I could always change my moving date to a week later?? - Accept Help – with the moving.
I can do this… - Say Goodbye.
I have created November as my month to get my flat ready and say goodbye. But good to remember. Although only moving 3 miles away…so I can still visit Leith.
- Adopt the Right Attitude – focus on the positives and remember the moving process is only temporary.

Well that was helpful researching. I think my exhaustion is coming from the psychological impact of moving so quickly and into a boat, which is such a big difference.
I can let you know if the SAD Lamp helps in the next few days 🙂
Another ‘spot Honey the Dog’ in the blog cover photo, as she is camouflaged in the leaves!!! Can you see her?
Today we went into the ‘Ear Shop’ (aka Capital Pets) and Don’s Cat was playing with Honey’s tail. Honey does not chase the cat, but it is good at standing up for itself.
We found this funny, so tried to get some photos, without much success, so I did a couple of videos and turned into photos. Whilst Don distracted her with biscuits.
The final photo she has her tail tucked right under her body, so the cat can’t get it!
The commentary on the videos are funny 😉

One comment in her today.

Pat made a Facebook comment about yesterday blog (Day 209) saying:
“Big Companies Like McDonald’s Etc Have Huge Banks Of Lawyers So The Council Will Not Close Them Down As They Would Not Be Able To Afford The Court Cases… Easier To Close Down The Little Businesses As They Cannot Fight Back…“.
Sadly, I completely agree. The only thing we can choose to do, is avoid the big companies and support local independent shops and cafes.
As I come to the end of the blog, I hope to be in bed by midnight. Not only the moving and the darker nights, going to bed too late is not good for my energy. This is something I have noticed throughout writing this blog!
Today it has rained a bit, but not lots, its been a dreich day, but actually warmer.
Good Night!
