Day 184 – Reflections on Lockdown

posted in: Stories | 0

Today I have been getting everything ready to go away and catching up on work as well!  It’s been a busy day.  But I managed to get a quick lunch at Word of Mouth café with Julie at lunchtime.

I also put a deposit on Discovery, the canal boat that I am buying.  I pay the remaining amount when I return from my holiday.  So I am virtually a proud owner of a canal boat.  Double excitement today – going on holiday and buying a boat 🙂

Honey is not coming with me, so I had to sort all her food out and drop her off at Helen’s who owns the boat two boats down from mine!  Also had to take her bed to Hannah’s who is having her from Saturday.

On our morning walk I noticed many flats are up for sale.  It reminded of me before the recession and streets were full of the signs.  I don’t know if that is because of the impact of lockdown, like I was writing about yesterday (Day 183) or because everyone is sick of all the traffic on Easter Road.  It is usually traffic jam all the way down there these days.  I counted 9 buses on it the other day!

You can see the signs on flats stretching all the way down Easter Road every few flats.

Perhaps it is a mixture of the two.  Plus as interest rates are SO low at the moment, people are taking advantage of it.  Folk are getting mortgages at 1.2% interest!

Face-Mask Corner

Today we have Roshi from Word of Mouth café.

He got his face-mask from Amazon.  He said he’s spent over £200 on face-masks trying to find one that is comfortable to wear, doesn’t cover his eyes so he can cook and doesn’t get too hot.

Even better still he gave me one as a present to use when performing magic 🙂

Readers Corner

Three comments today from two people, I think that is a first!

Julie

Julie posted a comment on yesterdays blog (Day 183) in regards to ‘It Made Me Smile’.

“That cartoon is hilarious! That’s twice you’ve made me laugh out load today. Thanks Jim. Have a great holiday. See you when you get back.”

Glad I’ve made you laugh twice today 🙂

She also posted a comment on the day before yesterday’s blog (Day 182) saying:

“How very random that you met Charlie Miller at a house party! I think students of one floor in student accommodation make up a household and that’s why they are in larger groups. I like to think that’s why, otherwise they need a good telling off 🙂 Thanks for your blog, Jim.”

Glad you enjoyed the blog!  The house party was connected to Integral theory which was created by Ken Wilber.  Worth checking him out, he’s a guide of spiritual psychology scientist guru type guy who has created an amazing movement across the world.  Apologies to anyone who knows his work well, I probably haven’t explained it very well here 😉

Pat

Pat posted a comment on Facebook on yesterdays blog (Day 183), saying:

Great Read..Enjoy Your Time Away.. I Take It Honey Is Going Also… Stay Safe and Stay Well Mate..☘️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿☘️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Cheers Pat!  Glad you enjoyed the blog, I enjoyed writing it!  Honey is not coming with me, so I am looking forward to the break.  She is on her own holiday 😉

As I come to the end of this blog, it is super short!  I am getting up in a few hours to drive to Mallaig, via Linlithgow!

It’s been a whirlwind two weeks, it was only 14 days ago that I started wondering whether to buy the boat.  It was only 15 days ago that it was first advertised!  With that and this holiday, I’ve only been away from Edinburgh for 1 night since March, it’s going to be super weird and exciting.

And of course – no cover photo on the blog of Honey!

I hope to post some kind of blog everyday, maybe even just a VLOG.  But probably a day in arrears due to the island having no mobile reception and limited WiFi.

Thanks for reading!

Jim x
