Day 131 – Reflections on Lock-Down

posted in: Stories | 0

There’s not much to write about today 🙁

Nothing really happening today nor anything that comes to mind to reflect about on lock-down and the “new normal”.  My reflections come from conversations that I have with people, usually something catches my attention which I could include in the blog!  New behaviours, new experiences, new ways of living, as we adjust to the “new normal”.

I remember talking to my friend Theo a few months ago about how things will change.  He pointed out that the freedom that we have been used to for our generation, will now dramatically change for ever!  This really struck me, as I had taken for granted how life is – it is normal.

What Theo was saying, is that things will never return to how they used to be.  The “new normal” is here to stay and what we associated with “normal” before lock-down will never fully return.

I guess, if that is true, that is how things change and evolve.

It usually happens gradually – we are having to adjust to things changing very dramatically very suddenly.  I guess, even if the pandemic comes to an end in maybe 2 to 3 years time (for example) there are probably things that we will continue to do forever more!

That’s kind of feels weird.  News, media and people talk about how we will eventually return to how life was before the pandemic.  Will that really fully happen?  Or will be slowly adjust to a new way of living?

This morning on my walk with Honey I was on the lock-out for sting nettles with fat green stalks to make some string, which Henry taught me last weekend (Day 125).  Without Henry’s guidance, it didn’t go so well and despite removing all the leaves, I still got stung on the stalk 🙁

I will be out again on the search for more to try and again.

It’s certainly super fun to do and really relaxing and therapeutic.  I look forward to mastering it, which I am sure won’t be long – as with anything, it comes with practice! 🙂

This afternoon, I went to a preview of my friend Gareth’s magic show that coincides with the Edinburgh Fringe – ‘Live in Your Living Room: The Online Experience with Magic Gareth’.

Gareth decided that although the Edinburgh Fringe was not happening this year, due to Covid-19, he decided to take control of the situation and put on a show anyway!

His show is on everyday from 11am, from Sunday 2nd August to Sunday 9th August.  It’s a 40 minute children’s magic show, age 5+.

I must admit it felt more like a cross between a film and a magic show, well worth the £10 for a Zoom ticket – which of course covers as many people who can squeeze in to the screen.  So maybe up to 5/6 people – £2 per person is pretty much a good deal!

Gareth is a great entertainer and children’s magician!  He has clearly mastered virtual entertainment / magic show.

But hurry, because it is already starting to sell out!

Today’s preview show had three reviewers at it!  I cannot wait to see the reviews that come in 🙂

Poetry / Art Corner

Another painting from my sister, Anna.  She discovered The Paint Republic during lock-down.  You can access free paint-as-you-go classes via their website or Facebook page.  Or you can join for £5 a month to access over 60 classes!  All online (virtual) rather than real world.

I love this one!

Thanks Anna – I love the giraffes !

Nothing in here today!

It Made Me Smile

My mum (Penny) told me a funny story the other day when she was in Waitrose, that made me smile.  A woman came up to her that she didn’t recognise -because of face-coverings.  When my mum worked out who she was, they chatted for a while, her friend said:

“I usually wear lipstick when I come to Waitrose, but with these face-masks I don’t need to bother”.

Ha!  What a great advantage of face-coverings 🙂

Day 17, 18, 19 & 20 of the Post-25 Day Push-Up Challenge

Today I caught up on the four days that I was due and did 100 push-ups!

Only 5 days to go and then I quit!

Honey the Dog has a cameo appearance at 4.03 – 4:27 on the counter!

As I come to the end of today’s blog, it is super short!

The weather has been mainly cloudy, but warm/humid.  I was out in shorts and t-shirt 🙂

This morning Honey and I had a long lie in, then searched for stinging nettles, then enjoyed Magic Gareth’s show, before heading out for a long walk.

Not much else has been happening.

Although I see in the news that a heatwave is heading towards Scotland end of next week 🙂

Hope you’ve had a super Saturday!

Take Care!
